🎓 Jean Monnet Coordinator Workshop | "Teaching the EU in Türkiye"
Today, under the coordination of Kilis 7 Aralık University's EU-BEGIN Jean Monnet Module, we successfully held our coordinator workshop bringing together Jean Monnet project coordinators from different universities across Türkiye. The workshop aimed to compare module and chair experiences, identify shared challenges in EU teaching, and lay the groundwork for new academic collaborations.
📌 Session I — EU-BEGIN Module
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Efe shared the design and implementation experience of EU-BEGIN, an interdisciplinary Jean Monnet module, and explained how Kilis's identity as a border city has been transformed into a pedagogical laboratory. Dr. Müzeyyen Pandır presented her course design on teaching gender equality through an EU lens and discussed the in-class challenges of interdisciplinary teaching.
📌 Session II — Jean Monnet Chair
Doç. Dr. Filiz Cicioğlu (Sakarya University) shared her experience with the Jean Monnet Chair and highlighted the institutional advantages it offers compared to the module structure in the context of teaching EU–Türkiye relations during a period of crisis.
📌 Session III — JOIN! Module
Prof. Dr. Alaaddin F. Paksoy (Anadolu University) presented his approach to EU pedagogy through the lens of communication studies. His innovative model — where students engage with EU topics through news production, podcasting, and digital content creation — drew particular attention.
🔵 Round Table & Closing
In the general session, all participants engaged in a comparative discussion on student engagement, bureaucratic challenges, and interdisciplinarity. The workshop concluded with a concrete call for collaboration toward a joint Jean Monnet Chair or Centre of Excellence application.
✅ The most important outcome of the workshop: the first steps were taken to transform today's gathering into a lasting academic partnership.
